    Hi

We have 2 High Needs learners whose parents are unwilling to provide any evidence (household income, benefit letters) for us to approve Bursary. They need this financial support to attend learning however we don’t see anyway around this apart from funding this ourselves.

Has anyone else been faced with this – if so what did you do?

    Many Thanks

In a very exceptional circumstance we got a professional who was working with the family to provide a written deceleration of family situation stating they would be unable to pay for transport contribution.

Thanks- were you audited by the ESFA by any chance and did they accept this as evidence?

We haven’t been audited, is it discretionary bursary? If it’s vulnerable the rules are much tighter, discretionary it does say it’s up to the college to decide what criteria to apply. We’re a specialist residential college for students with disabilities, so getting information from parents is often problematic for us, and I do understand why they wouldn’t; want to share things like their bank statements. Not sure what best answer fro yourself is, student needs the support, I would try and get what you can and be prepared to argue with an auditor it was that ort the learner wouldn’t be attending.
