Section 5.4.3 of the Provider Support Manual refers; although not enough to answer this question!

A learner re-starting the same aims with the same provider, not returning from an agreed break in learning.

Can the duration be reduced to reflect the time on programme previously, or must the planned and actual duration from re-starting be a minimum of 12 months.

We have an apprentice that left their original programme very near to completing. They only need one session with their trainer to complete what remains. Setting a new duration of 12 months from the new start date of learning seems counterintuitive, but the funding rules do not indicate a reduced length of stay is permissible.

    What would you advise?

The duration after a restart should reflect the time that the learner was previously on programme and the total of the previous and restart duration must still meet in total the minimum duration.
